South Florida Dominates the First Day of SEMF

Jacksonville, FL – September 19, 2014 – Youngsters Kaely Tomeu and Fidalgo Van Het Leliehof are a new force to be reckoned with, and they proved it Thursday night by winning the $5,000 1.40 Welcome Stake at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center during the first night of the Southeast Medal Finals. Tomeu, just 18 years old, and her new equine partner, who goes by the name of “Phil,” is just 9 years old.

Tomeu just purchased Phil and competed on him for the first time at the Country Heir Horse Show in Kentucky. The new duo started in the Low Junior Jumpers and quickly moved up to the High Junior Jumpers at Horse Shows by the Bay in Traverse City, Michigan, where they won almost every class Tomeu entered.

“He’s so wonderful. He’s so easy; I have won more classes on him than any other horse I have ever owned,” Tomeu said. She and Phil will try to continue their winning streak on Friday in the $25,000 SEMF Grand Prix with hopes of having the opportunity to ride Phil on the Prix De States team this October at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. Tomeu trains with Ali Sweetnam of Sweet Oak Farm in Wellington, FL.

Staying true to its name, Southeast Medal Finals offers a variety of equitation divisions, including the Wild Card Phelps Media Group Southeast Medal Final, a promising new class won by Main Street’s Liberation, owned and ridden by Taylor Masters. Second in the class went to Taking Chances, owned and ridden by Zoe Stewart. Riders navigated a challenging course while demonstrating the fundamental basics of riding in a stylish, controlled manner.

Megan Eisenfelder also displayed her fine riding yesterday, going first in the order-of-go and besting a field of 13 junior and amateur jumpers in the $500 1.25m Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers on her Irish Sport Horse, Killard Horizon.

“We imported him about 3 years ago. He was riding really great today, and we are really in sync right now,” said Eisenfelder of her gorgeous grey gelding.

“My ride was great, and I am really happy about it. I am going to continue to show him in some small shows for practice in preparation for [the Winter Equestrian Festival] 2015,” she concluded. Eisenfelder is a student of Tiffany Morrissey of East Wind Farms in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Runner-up in the $500 1.25m Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers was Abbey Soffer on her Swedish Warmblood, Lundback T Hastak, trained by Shane Sweetnam and Michael DelFiandra of Sweet Oak Farm in Wellington, FL.

After a full day of showing on Thursday, horses and riders return to the Jacksonville Equestrian Center for Friday’s classes. Junior and Amateur-Owner Hunters will strut their stuff out on the grass arena, finishing with the $1,000 SEMF Junior/A-O 3’3″ and 3’6″ Hunter Classics. The day will conclude in the covered arena with the $25,000 Land Rover Jacksonville Grand Prix at 7:00 pm.

The final day of the 2014 Southeast Medal Finals on Sunday will be streaming live on the web. Join us live from the Jacksonville Equestrian Center on September 21, 2014 beginning at 8 a.m.

Southeast Medal Finals Offers New Qualifying Opportunities

Ashley Foster won the 2013 ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Regionals at Southeast Medal Finals. Photo by Randi Muster.

Jacksonville, FL – September 6, 2014 – The Southeast Medal Finals are rapidly approaching and riders are working hard to fine tune their skills in hopes to shine at the much-anticipated event. This year, many of the hunters will be competing on the beautiful grass arena, while the equitation horses and jumpers will have the opportunity to compete in the expansive coliseum. In addition to the numerous classes, our first day of competition will conclude with the exciting $5,000 Geddaway Farm Welcome Stake.

Gathering some of the most talented equitation combinations, the Region 3 ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay Championship, The Phelps Media Group Southeast Junior Medal Final and the Southeast Adult Medal Final, are just some of the most sought after classes to win at the show.

Adding to the excitement at the competition this year are the GGT/East West Arena Construction Children’s Hunter Finals, the Wellington Quarantine Adult Hunter Finals, Tenney’s Custom Saddlery Children’s/Adult 2’6″ Medal Finals and the 2’6′ Children’s/Adult Hunter Finals sponsored by Citrus Series.

If you don’t qualify for these finals by September 14, 2014 we have good news for you! Riders will have another opportunity at this competition. You can compete in a Wild Card class and vie for a spot in the finals, or you may be one of the lucky competitors who earns a 1st through 8th place ribbon in the respective divisions to qualify. And if you didn’t qualify for the finals, we look forward to seeing you in Jacksonville competing in one of the many other divisions offered at this show.

The excitement doesn’t stop there, as the expanded schedule offers a wide variety of top-tier divisions, including the class not to be missed: a just-for-fun Parent Lead Line Class that is sure to bring laughter to the stadium.

The jumper competitors also have their opportunity to shine. In addition to the Low Children/Adult Jumpers, which has been added this year, there are the High Children/Adult Jumpers, Junior Amateur/Owner Jumpers and it all culminates with the $25,000 Jacksonville Grand Prix, as the classes bring some of the most skilled horse and rider combinations in the nation.

Please review the “revised” schedule as the 3’3″ Junior Hunters have been added.

Program Advertising and Boutique Space Available for Southeast Medal Finals

Spectators watch a class on Thursday night. Photo by Randi Muster.

Jacksonville, FL – June 29, 2014 – The organizers of Southeast Medal Finals, Stadium Jumping and James Lala, expect an increased turn out for the event this year. Modeled after the well-attended New England Medal Finals, the show will be held for its third consecutive year at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center on Sept. 18-21. It will host the Region Three ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay Regionals and several finals that have been growing in popularity, including the Phelps Media Group Southeast Junior Medal Finals and the Southeast Adult Medal Finals. The Grand Prix of Jacksonville will be held on Friday night.

This year, the organizers plan to add both a Southeast 3′ and 2’6″ hunter finals and a 2’6″ Southeast Medal Finals. For vendors, and advertisers this means a fantastic business opportunity to market to riders, parents and trainers before they head off to indoors.

Vendor booths are offered indoors within the coliseum concourse. Several outdoor spaces are available for self-contained mobile boutiques. Due to the huge success last year and the high demand for vendor booths this year, it is important that vendors submit their requests early. Locations in prime areas are limited and will go quickly.

Contact Matt Morrissey at matt.morrissey@stadiumjumping.com for more information.

Mark your calendar for August 14, the advertising closing date for the Official Southeast Medal Finals Souvenir Program.

Parent Lead Line Class Returns to Southeast Medal Finals

Don Stewart participated in the Parent Lead Line class at the 2013 Southeast Medal Finals. Photo by Carrie Wirth.

Jacksonville, FL – June 16, 2014 – Last year’s Southeast Medal Finals launched the Parent Lead Line Class, a fun new class and an opportunity for parents to have their moment in the spotlight in the coliseum at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. The tongue-in-cheek class returns this year to Southeast Medal Finals, which runs from Sept. 18-21.

Riders are encouraged to enter their parents, with or without their knowledge, to vie for top honors as well as additional awards in fun categories, such as the Most Confident, Most Likely to Turn Professional, Best Outfit, Most Terrified, and Most Medicated.

“This class was truly one of the highlights last year,” said James Lala, from Lala Land Productions, who will manage the 2014 show alongside Stadium Jumping, Inc. “We couldn’t stop laughing. The parents really got into the spirit and came up with some really hilarious costumes.”

Parent Lead Line is open to parents of exhibitors.  Competitors must lead their parent on horseback. Parents must wear an approved helmet and suitable shoes. Creativity is encouraged.  All proceeds generated from this class will be donated to a soon-to-be-named charity.

Southeast Medal Finals Parent Lead Line Class will be held on Saturday, September 20, following the completion of round one of the Phelps Media Group Southeast Medal Finals.

In addition to the Parent Lead Line Class, highlights of the Southeast Medal Finals line-up include the $25,000 Jacksonville Grand Prix the Phelps Media Group Southeast Junior Medal and the ASPCA Maclay Regionals.

Jacksonville, FL – May 25, 2014 – James Lala is pleased to announce that world-class show management organization, Stadium Jumping, Inc., has been contracted to help produce this year’s popular Jacksonville championship competition, Southeast Medal Finals. Stadium Jumping, led by Michael Morrissey, has been the producer of such groundbreaking and iconic show jumping events as the American Invitational, The American Gold Cup, World Cup Finals, Olympic Games Show Jumping Selection Trials, FEI World Equestrian Games Selection Trials and the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Southeast Medal Finals hosts the ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Regionals for Region 3. “We are excited to work with James on this show,” said Michael Morrissey. “We’ve heard great things about it. The Jacksonville Equestrian Center is a fantastic venue and the coliseum makes it perfect for a finals. We look forward to see where we can take it.”

Southeast Medal Finals also produces the popular Phelps Media Group Southeast Junior Medal which junior riders may qualify for at shows in the southeast. The show has added a number of final championship classes and last year added a grand prix and welcome class.

Southeast Medal Finals is hosted by one of the premier equestrian facilities on the East Coast, the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. It is centrally located for USHJA Zone 4 and Region 3 competitors. The complex includes a network of adjacent trails, available to explore and enjoy for a casual hack during horse show down times. This year Land Rover Jacksonville will present a fun off-road driving event during the Southeast Medal Finals on the grounds of the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. Competitors and attendees will have the opportunity to try the Land Rover vehicles first hand.

“Jaguar Land Rover Jacksonville has been around for about 40 years,” shared Mustafa. “What’s special about us is the tenure of our employees. About 70 percent have been here for 10 years or longer. Everyone is very dedicated to our Jaguar and Land Rover brands. We enjoy what we do.”

“Come visit us at our booth at the show. We have some great Land Rover luxury SUVs that perfectly suit the equestrian lifestyle,” said Mustafa.

Southeast Medal Finals Wrap Up

September 28, 2013 – The Southeast Medal Finals just wrapped up an extremely successful week at the world class Jacksonville Equestrian Center.  “Our show grew three times the size it was last year,” commented Bob Bell, President of the Classic Company.  “I attribute this to the fact that the show is on the right date, the week before the indoor events start, in the right location and the fact that the Southeast Medal Finals have grown in popularity,” he added.

Ashley Foster, trained by Patty Foster, won the ASPCA Maclay Regional Championship. Hayley Waters won the EMO Championship, Barbara Ann Merryman won the Southeast Junior Medal Championship, Emily Jones won the Phelps Media Group Southeast Adult Medal Championship, Ashley Foster won the Land Rover 3′ Medal, and Brett Burlington won the Cedar Street 3’6 Medal Championship.  Lee Cessory and her own Trantino won the Southeast Medal Finals Adult Amateur Hunter Championship. Ashton Alexander rode Susan Stein’s Victor VDL to the championship win in the Southeast Medal Finals Junior Hunter Championship. Jordan Coyne won both the $25,000 Land Rover Grand Prix and the $5,000 Open Welcome Class on her own mounts, Cordova and Lazaro, respectively.

“We are so thrilled with the growth of this show and the success of the Southeast Medal Finals.  We strongly encourage other show managers to consider offering Southeast Medal Finals qualifying classes,” said Bell.  “There is no charge for show management to offer these classes, nor is there any charge to the competitors,” said Bell. “Really, this is a win-win for everyone!” he added.  “We anticipate this show to experience another massive increase next year and are looking forward to showcasing the top equestrian talent in the country,” he continued.
