Campbell and Rocky W Win the $7,500 Nalley Toyota Stonecrest Open Welcome

Kaitlin Campbell pilots her own Rocky W to the win.

It was all about horsepower in yesterday’s $7,500 Nalley Toyota Stonecrest Open Welcome Class which saw twenty horse and rider teams tackle the course designed by Michel Vaillancourt, former Olympian and 2015 Pan American Games Course Designer.

Only seven advanced to a second round opportunity and Michael Tokaruk of Germantown, Tennessee, in the irons of Charlie Jayne’s Cupid Shuffle, lead the way. The pair turned in a first round effort in a time of 69.112 seconds and clean second round in a time of 36.740 second, within the 45 seconds time allowed.

Wender, owned by Hester Equestrian, LLC and ridden by Lauren Hester of Lexington, Kentucky, was next to post a clean first-round effort in a time of 69.651 seconds but was eliminated in the second round. Hester and Wender would finish in seventh place overall.

David Jennings of Franklin, Tennessee, riding KM Farm’s KM Corfina, followed with the next clean first round effort in a time of 70.684 seconds and a clean second round effort in a time of 35.302 seconds, setting the new time to beat.

Rocky W, owned and ridden by Kaitlin Campbell of Lexington, Kentucky, was next to go fault-free in their first round in a time of 72.623 seconds. Their fault-free second round in 34.034 seconds would steal the lead from Jennings and Cortina and set the new time to beat.

Lyndsay Strafuss of Collierville, Texas, in the irons of Castle Point Farm, LLC’s Troya Montecristo, challenged Campbell’s time but had a rail, and with four jump faults in a time of 35.373 seconds, would finish in sixth place overall.

Hester returned to the ring, this time in the irons of Hester Equestrian, LLC’s Clueless P. The pair posted a first round effort in a time of 70.184 seconds. However, their second round in a time of 33.921 seconds had four jump faults and the pair would finish in fifth place overall.

Daniel Geitner in the irons of Amy Yoder’s Stitch was the next to go clean in the first round, posting a time of 74.588 seconds. Although their second round time was the fastest in 33.618 seconds, four faults would see the pair finish in fourth place overall. Campbell and Rocky W held onto their lead for first place honors while Jennings and KM Corfina took second.

“I’ve owned Rocky for nine years,” said Campbell. “He’s my old soldier. I think the last time I showed here was in 2003. The stalls are so nice now and the improvements are great. This is a great show for our younger horses. The classes are big enough but you can just keep going until you get it right.” Campbell is originally from Doylestown, Pennsylvania and after graduating from American University, now works for Leslie Emerson and Marigot Bay Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. She will be competing in tomorrow night’s $35,000 Classic Grand Prix, presented by EMO.
