Lexington, KY – February 11, 2013 – The second year production of the Alltech National Horse Show at the Kentucky Horse Park once again received a top ranking from NARG, the North American Riders Group. The show was staged at the beautiful Alltech Arena on October 31 through November 4, 2012.

The North American Riders Group (NARG), representing the riders and owners in North America, is comprised of the top horsemen from the United States, Canada and Mexico and was formed with the goal of improving the sport of show jumping. The NARG Top 25 initiative is a prime example. NARG, in their report, stated, “This effort has created a mirror in which top equestrian events can reflect on what is important to us, how to improve and whether they truly seek to be a Top 25 event. And this year is proof that those who aspire to be great are willing to look, listen and improve.”

The Alltech National Horse Show was one of those events that listened and accordingly, improved on their score from last year. “We take the NARG rankings very seriously,” said Mason Phelps, Jr., the President of the National Horse Show Association. “There were a number of items that last year’s report brought to our attention and our manager Hugh Kincannon and the entire Alltech National Horse Show team worked diligently to improve in those areas.”

Ranking fourth this year as the second highest rated show in the United States, The Alltech National Horse Show received a score of 88%, reflecting an impressive five point increase over last year’s score. The 117-year-old Devon Horse Show was this year’s top rated American event with a score of 90%. Two Canadian shows, Spruce Meadows and Thunderbird, were ranked first and third, respectively. “We congratulate Devon on their exceptional effort this past season,” stated Phelps. “They have a tremendous history at that event, but so does the National Horse Show. We continue to work hard to bring the magic of the old National to Lexington, Kentucky.”

“With all the ingredients of a fabulous equestrian event, a perfect score is within reach for the Alltech National Horse Show,” the NARG Top 25 report stated. “First and foremost, the show has one of the sport’s top sponsors in its title. This same sponsor played a supporting role in building the Alltech Arena, with the ability to host a tremendous indoor affair within its walls – from show jumping to shopping to fine dining and fabulous parties. The prize money offered is the best of any indoor show in North America. Excellent footing and top course design mixed with a solid turnout of international competitors resulted in great sport.”

The NARG report continued, “Although in the fourth spot this year, their 2012 score of 88 is five points higher than last year. NARG commends the Alltech National Horse Show for having it all, with the exception of a large audience.”

“And that’s our priority,” concluded Phelps. “We are already making plans for a more exciting nighttime session each night and with Alltech’s help, we’re making an all-out effort to fill the seats.”

The Alltech National Horse Show returns to the Alltech Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 29 through November 3, 2013.
