SAUGERTIES, NY (January 28, 2011) — HITS, Inc. is pleased to announce that Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc., manufacturers of Adequan (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan), the only FDA-approved disease modifying osteoarthritic drug treatment for equine non-infectious degenerative joint disease, will once again sponsor the popular Adequan Hunter Division at all HITS horse shows nationwide.

Luitpold Animal Health believes that the demands on show horses, particularly at the top performance level, require attention to details and a solid plan for maintaining soundness.

Adequan i.m. is the flagship equine product from Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Unlike corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which only ease the source of pain and decrease inflammation of the synovial membrane, Adequan i.m. breaks the destructive disease cycle associated with osteoarthritis. It helps to restore the natural cycle of “wear and repair” within a joint and blocks the enzymes that damage joints and restores synovial lubrication within the joint. The treatment regime of 1 intramuscular injection every 4 days for 7 treatments protects cartilage structure, inhibits cartilage damage and stimulates the natural cartilage repair process. It also decreases inflammation and relieves the pain associated with DJD.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with HITS,” said Allyn Mann, Sr. Manager at Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. “The number one priority for our company is to educate the veterinarian, horse owner, trainer and rider about the value of identifying joint problems early in the disease process. Our new marketing campaign for 2011 is based on a simple yet powerful message:”

Check your horses legs daily for swelling or heat
Treat problems early before the disease process has the opportunity to damage cartilage
Reverse the damage by using Adequan, the only FDA approved disease modifying osteoarthritic drug available for treating equine joints

Since 2003 when Adequan began its sponsorship, the Adequan Hunter Division has become one of the most popular divisions offered at HITS horse shows and is a qualifying division for the Marshall & Sterling League National Finals. Open to a horse of any age, regardless of what other divisions they show in, and with fences set at 3’5”, it’s the anchor of the non-rated hunter section not only at HITS, but also at many of the Marshall & Sterling member shows throughout the country.

A “weekend” favorite, this division will see some of the top professional hunter riders in the country as well as many talented junior and amateur riders. Because the fences are 3’5” many use this division to move their green horses up, without breaking their first-year status.

This winter, the Adequan Hunter highlights the weekly schedule at the HITS Desert Circuit in Thermal, California, the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit in Ocala, Florida, and the HITS Arizona Winter Circuit in Tucson, Arizona.

HITS will crown the Adequan Hunter Circuit Champions at each of the three winter shows in a special Parade of Champions. In Thermal the Champions will be announced for the SmartPak Mid-Circuit, SmartPak Second-Half and Antarès Sellier France Overall Circuit, while Arizona and Ocala will crown their Overall Antarès Sellier France Circuit Champion during the final Sunday of the shows.

The Spring, Summer and Fall Show Series at HITS Culpeper and HITS Saugerties will also feature the Adequan Hunter Division, providing crucial qualifying opportunities for hundreds of riders as the home-stretch of the 2011 Marshall & Sterling League National Finals qualifying period comes to a close on August 28.
