Habitat for Horses, Inc. to Host Equine Disaster Preparedness Forum, June 28

Jacksonville, FL – Habitat for Horses, Inc. will host a forum for horse owners who need to know the key steps in disaster preparedness, including hurricane planning, tips on when and how to evacuate and where to go, along with basic emergency medical needs for injured or stressed horses. Information will also include instructions on how to save the “whole” family and packing emergency first aid kits, plus how to ID your horse and how to become involved in the local community after a disaster.

 

preparedness2-200.jpgThe forum will be instructed by David Perry, FDACS Field Emergency Response Coordinator; John Haven, Director UF College of Vet; Dr. Dan Knox, AVID Microchip ID; Jennifer Stagg, Planner/Program Manager, Emergency Preparedness Division, Duval County; John Ward, CERT Coordinator, Clay County Division of Emergency Management; Dawn McLane, DVM; Alan Weldon., DVM; Jerry Finch, Founder and President of Habitat for Horses; Rebecca Williams, VP of Habitat for Horses. They will speak on the topics of the state emergency response, as well as Microchipping, proper identification of horses, disaster plan for your farm, basic medical needs for injured and stressed horses. The Florida State Agricultural Response Team (FL-SART) Emergency Response Trailer will be featured.

The forum will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center, 13611 C Normandy Blvd. in Jacksonville, FL. The event is free to the public. Pre-registration is requested. Log on to: http://www.equinedisasterpreparedness.com/.
