The Gypsy Vanner

The Gypsy Vanner

I recently (7 months ago) imported from the UK and Ireland a very rare equine breed to Southwest Florida. The Gypsy Vanner Horse was bred to pull the colorful gypsy caravans of England and Ireland. The breed is half a century old, and was developed from a combination of Friesian, Clydesdale, Shire, and Dales pony blood. Its docile nature is a result of necessity; gypsy horses have to be patient, gentle, and quiet in order to be safe for pulling caravans and carrying gypsy children, who often ride bareback.

Aurora Acres Equestrian Center, owned by Dawn Butera and Danny Lott, is Southwest Florida's largest Gypsy Vanner Breeder. It has two facilities to better serve its clients and is getting ready to add a 3rd broodmare barn to Lady Lake, Florida this June. Its headquarters are located in Naples just off 951. This quiet, country setting on 3+ acres offers a comprehensive range of services for both horse and rider. Its secondary breeding facility is on 92 acres in Northern Florida in White Springs just 20 miles north of Lake City.

They specialize in registered Gypsy Vanners but occasionally have other horses available in all locations.

The Gypsy Horse, also known as Gypsy Vanner®, Gypsy Cob, and Romany Horse, is a rare breed with traits of intelligence, kindness and docility, a Golden Retriever With Hooves®. They are not a color breed; it is a body type. They were bred by Gypsy Travelers to pull their carriages and carts. They come in a variety of colors, but the most prized being the spectacular pinto tobiano patterns. They boast luxurious long flowing manes and tails and plentiful leg feathering is highly desirable. The Gypsy Vanner's endurance, durability and responsiveness make it an attractive asset to any farm and/or family life! This is a fabulously versatile breed and truly does everything from riding and driving to dressage, jumping, and endurance! Gypsy horses were bred to be compact athletic gentle powerhouses and they totally meet the requirements! We concentrate on breeding athletes here at Aurora Acres.

They had a new addition to the farm on May 6th, 2006, Kentucky Derby Day. Born 2 weeks early, this colt was appropriately named "Derby". Derby is for sale and they also offer in-utero foals. At least three of their Gypsy mares are in foal at all times. They offer the In Utero option to select clients because it gives them the option to obtain a high quality gypsy foal for considerably less than they would have to pay otherwise. Save thousands on the regular costs of breeding your own mare, or the care/costs involved.

STALLION SERVICES: We also have our Proven homozygous tobiano Stallion ~ Aurora Acres Tir Na Nog. "Tir Na Nog" in Irish Gaelic means "Land of the Young". Our two year old double registered gypsy stallion boasts unparalleled bloodlines. He's the prized son of Slainte of Old Mill Farm (2005 Supreme Grand Champion Vanner). Charlie of El Brio Vanners is his Gransire; Dam is Magickal Farm Hailey, granddaughter of the original roadsweeper in the United Kingdom. Currently stands 15hh, we expect him to reach 15.2. He offers his exceptional looks, intelligence and temperament. * Stallion Services Available- Stud Fee $1000 LFG * Available to Approved Mares for Cross-Breeding  * Mare Care ~ Live Cover ~ AI ~ Shipped Semen.
