Hello my name is Ella Henry. My family and I own a small horse ranch in Callahan Florida. It’s not fancy, but hey, it’s ours!
Here is a little information about us. Did you know we are the only ‘Black Owned’ horse farm in north Florida? Our goal here is to grow each and every day. A lot of people ask why you are into owning horses and a farm. Well, not many of our people left own or operate their own land here in Florida; most sold out when their parents passed on and they spent the money of fancy clothes, cars, and other things, and they ‘forgot’ where they came from.
It’s very important that we let our children know of our past and it’s okay to be different. That’s why we host a monthly or more ‘free family days’ for people to come out for good old fashioned fun. There aren’t many things now a-days you can do with your family for free! All we ask is that you bring your own drinks and snacks and we will take care of the rest!
We have ponies and horses to ride, and other things going on out here. This summer, we plan on having Sunday baseball games and soon, we hope to have a basketball court and a swimming pool and a nice play area for the kids to enjoy and yes, for the men (and ladies!) we soon hope to have a fishing pond as well.
Our goal here at the Last Chance Ranch is to make sure that our families understand what we do here and that all things in life don’t have to cost something! Think about it - when was the last time you left the city (and it’s not that far) or did something that did not cost you anything but your time? Not many of us can answer this question…
No we are not rich but we do the best we can to let our guests enjoy what we have been blessed with.
Here are a few things we are trying to do out here on the farm:
In July we host a trail ride where black cowboys and ladies bring their horses and put on a show. We let the guests ride horses and it’s something great not to miss!
But, its takes a lot of time and money to put on something like this. We are expecting over 500 people from the north and south from NY to New Orleans. We are in a great need of help to put this show on and to make it a great success.
What we are in the need of are: vendors, volunteers, craftsmen, and donations. (This can be a tax write-off as well.) We are selling raffle tickets, taking discounts on pony parties and moonwalk rentals to raise this money. If you know of anyone that can build a fence that maybe has a backhoe or just free time that would like to help please, by all means, send them our way. Time is moving fast and we need help and we are not afraid to ask for it!

Also, in Blackshear Georgia (that’s only an hour and a half away), they host a good show for Black History Month that’s on the 23rd and 24th of February. For more information, please contact me by email or call.
Please help in anyway you can.
